Rankings confirm ASU a leader in graduate education

Graduate programs at ASU rank among the best in the nation, according to the U.S. News & World Report 2011 edition of “America’s Best Graduate Schools” which listed a number of programs in the top tier.  

These are the areas in which ASU ranks high on the 2011 list:

• Engineering programs, overall, are ranked No. 24 among public universities and No. 44 among both public and private universities.

• Business programs, overall, are ranked No. 11 among public schools.  

• Education programs, overall, rank No. 25 among public universities and No. 36 overall.

• Public affairs programs, overall, are ranked No. 25.

• City management is ranked No. 6.

• Public management/administration is ranked No. 8.

• Legal writing is ranked No. 9.

• Fine arts is ranked No. 30.

• Law is ranked No. 38.

• Earth science is ranked No. 17.

• Education policy is ranked No. 11.

• Secondary teacher education is ranked No. 11.

• Education psychology is ranked No. 12.

• Elementary teacher education is ranked No. 14.

• Student counseling and personnel services is ranked No. 15.

• Education curriculum and instruction is ranked No. 17.

• Education administration and supervision is ranked No. 17.

• International supply chain/logistics ranks No. 5.

• Information systems ranked No. 16.

• Accounting ranks No. 27.

For the third consecutive year, the W. P. Carey School has ranked in the top 30 for its full-time MBA program. The school is among the top five universities in the western United States. The business and engineering graduate programs, respectively, are the only ones among all Arizona universities on the top 50 list.

For the 11th consecutive year, the Mary Lou Fulton Institute and Graduate School of Education has been ranked among the nation’s best graduate programs in education. This year, seven out of nine specialty education programs were ranked in the top 20 in the nation. These include education policy, secondary teacher education, education psychology, elementary teacher education, student counseling/personnel services, curriculum and instruction, and education administration/supervision.

ASU's No. 17 ranking in earth science is the highest ranking of any graduate science program at ASU. This is a big jump from three years ago, when earth science was ranked No. 31, and by far the biggest jump in the top echelon of earth science programs.

Each year, U.S. News & World Report ranks professional school programs in business, education, engineering, law and medicine. The rankings are based on two types of data: expert opinion about program quality and statistical indicators.
