'Last Fridays' event returns to ASU's West campus

Thanks to the positive public response to the inaugural “Last Fridays, an Urban Art Festival” event at Arizona State University’s West campus, a second event is scheduled for March 26 from 5:30 to 10:30 p.m.

“Our first event on Feb. 26 attracted hundreds of people of all ages,” says Chelsey Tellez, president of Last Fridays co-sponsor Wheels in Motion, a West campus club. The student club works to support the Wheels in Motion Foundation, a nonprofit organization working to provide creative outlets for underprivileged communities and at-risk youth.

“Last Fridays offers something for everyone,” Tellez says. “It’s an innovative venue showcasing various types of original works of art from talented artists, photographers, performers, and musicians, many of whom enjoy national and international reputations. We invite the public to come join us on March 26 to have fun, meet artists, make friends, and enjoy the creative community at the West Valley’s own university campus.”

Entertainment includes BMX Freestyle Stunt Show with autograph sessions featuring Dew Tour and X-Games gold medalists, live music, break dancing, live artist demonstrations, and interactive Kid Zone with a youth art exhibit providing children the opportunity to explore their creativity.

Vendor registration for the event is required and will be available the day of the event; however, pre-registration is preferred.

There is no charge for art spaces. All vendors must donate 20 percent of total earnings to Wheels In Motion Foundation. (Handmade or original works of art only, please.)

In addition to Wheels in Motion and the Interdisciplinary Arts and Performance Club at the West campus, sponsors include the student groups Teachers of the Future, Spectrum, Kurdish Youth Club, Young Democrats, the Organization Reserved for Groups of Aspiring Student Musicians, and Concilio Estudiantil de Lideres Latinos.

ASU’s West Campus is located at 4701 W. Thunderbird Road in Phoenix. The festival will be held in the Delph Courtyard of the University Center Building.
