Softball blasts past Creighton and St. John's

March 09, 2010

Another complete game shutout from Hillary Bach and a two home-run night from Katie Crabb fueled the ninth-ranked ASU softball team Tuesday night as they topped Creighton 4-0 and St. John’s 11-3 (5). Bach took the win in game one as Megan Elliott grabbed the win in game two as ASU rolls to 17-2 overall.

Game one against the Jays, Hillary Bach took to the circle for ASU where the winds weren’t the only thing making the Creighton bats go cold as Bach mixed it up keeping the Jays on their toes throughout with a final line of seven innings pitched for only three hits with seven strikeouts en route to her third complete game shutout of the season.

The Sun Devils jumped on the board in the third as Lesley Rogers came around on a Kaylyn Castillo RBI single Another RBI single from Annie Lockwood helped give ASU the 3-0 lead after three complete. A sac fly in the fourth from Castillo again was all ASU needed as they rocked on to a 4-0 lead which Bach never relinquished control of.

In the nightcap with the St. John’ Red Storm Megan Elliott took the circle where STJ brought the thunder in the first inning as they rallied up three runs on four hits before shutting it down. ASU came out ready to rumble in the second inning as an RBI hit from Lacy Goodman was followed up by a two-run home run from Katie Crabb tied it up and saw the Sun Devils take the gloves off.

With the longest double in history, Ashley Muenz plated another run in the third before Katie Crabb gave the first pitch she saw in the fourth inning a new home in another time zone for her second bomb of the night before the rest of the Sun Devil team joined up to get down for four more runs in the inning.

With a single from Krista Donnenwirth in the sixth inning, Annie Lockwood decided to wrap the day early as she launched an 0-2 pitch deep to left field to finish the game via run rule 11-3.

The Sun Devils return to action today as they host St. John’s and Creighton again at 4:30 and 7 p.m. in Tempe at Farrington Stadium.
