Bachelor of General Studies degree program offered for fall 2009

ASU’s Downtown Phoenix campus is offering a new degree program this fall geared at strengthening workforce skills while easing the path toward graduation.

The Bachelor of General Studies degree, an inaugural program offered through ASU’s School of Letters and Sciences, is based on the theme of “Society and the Individual” and what it takes to succeed in a dynamic career.

“This degree will appeal to individuals seeking a flexible and innovative path to cultivate the skills necessary for success in today’s marketplace,” said Mirna Lattouf, Bachelor of General Studies degree program coordinator.  “Graduates of the degree program will be informed and effective members of society who are well prepared for a changing world with its diverse cultures.”

The theme of the degree will explore the tensions between individualism and collectivism and interplay of culture and identity.  Through the general education and major courses, graduates will engage in critical thinking in professional, personal and public contexts as well as conceptualize, analyze and synthesize complex problems.
