Campus crime prevention seminar set for March 3

Arizona State University Police Department officers will host a crime prevention seminar on March 3 for faculty, staff and students at the university’s West campus, 4701 West Thunderbird Road in Phoenix.  The discussion, organized to provide education and information about crime prevention strategies, safety awareness, and the resources available to ensure a safe learning and working environment, gets underway at noon in La Sala A in the University Center Building (UCB).

The seminar is sponsored by the West campus Public Safety Advisory Committee.

“This is the fourth year we have presented this important information relative to safety and prevention,” says West campus Commander Michael Thompson.  “It’s important for the campus community to be informed and to understand the role each one of us plays in our own safety.

“The better informed we are about crime prevention and the ways we can ensure a safer learning and working environment, the greater impact we can have on reducing the chances of being victimized.”

The seminar has been modified over the years to attract a larger campus audience.  The information shared by officers is specific to the campus community.  The hour-and-a-half seminar will include a question-answer session allowing attendees to ask questions or raise concerns they may have about campus safety and security.

Materials and promotional literature will be available, and light refreshments will be served.

The mission of the Public Safety Advisory Committee is to assure the ASU Police Department remains responsive to the needs of the campuses and local communities and to provide the university administration with regular input on issues surrounding crime abatement, law enforcement, public safety and emergency preparedness. The major role of the committee is advisory and consultative.
