Entertainment lineup for May 13 pre-commencement ceremony

Arizona State University is predicting warm weather and scorching entertainment for the 2009 Spring Commencement to welcome President Barack Obama to Sun Devil Stadium on Wednesday.

The pre-ceremony show reflects the array of talent at ASU and the community at large.  From Mariachi to hip-hop to gospel to one of rock’s greatest icons – Alice Cooper – this year’s lineup features a stellar and culturally diverse cast of performing artists.

The entertainment schedule and lineup is as follows:

• 4:45 p.m. – Introduction by Master of Ceremonies, Benjamin Benya, a graduating senior at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication.

• 4:47 p.m. – Mariachi ASU

• 5:03 p.m. – Lambda Theta Phi Latin Fraternity, Inc.

• 5:08 p.m. – ASU Hip-Hop Coalition

• 5:19 p.m. – Native American singing by Jarod Pidgeon, Master’s Candidate, ASU Mary Lou Fulton College of Education and Graduate Research Assistant

• 5:25 p.m. – Native American Flute Improvisation – Randy Kemp, ASU Katherine K. Herberger College of the Arts

• 5:30 p.m. – The Phoenix Indian Center Navajo Singing Group – featuring Jolyana Bitsuie, Master’s Candidate, ASU Mary Lou Fulton College of Education and Faculty Associate in Navajo Language Classes

• 5:40 p.m. – ASU Gospel Choir

• 6 p.m. – Runaway Phoenix featuring Dash Cooper with special appearance by Alice Cooper

• 6:21 p.m. – Sun Devil Marching Band & Spirit Squad

• 6:37 p.m. – ASU Pitchforks

• 6:47 p.m. – Emcee ends pre-ceremony performance
