Earth / Space:  Graduate students earn conference funds

School of Life Sciences (SOLS) graduate students Mike Butler, Nathan Morehouse, Jonathon Douglas, Lisa Taylor, Melissa Meadows and Matthew Toomey have been awarded $29,000 to develop the first SOLS Frontiers in Science Conference to be held at ASU.

An international team of astronomers (including one from ASU) are using the Hubble Space Telescope to obtain the first direct optical images of the aftermath of a titanic explosion that occurred recently in a star system 5,000 light-years from Earth.

ASU research has shown that on a microscopic level, raindrops hitting bare ground have nearly the force of a hammer hitting a mound of dirt.
