ASU scientists are researching alternative sources of fuel that are both economically feasible and good for the planet. One project involves producing algal feedstock for the production of biodiesel jet fuel.

Biodesign Institute - LEED Platinum

ASU’s Biodesign Institute has garnered the highest designation for environmentally friendly design and construction from the U.S. Green Building Council. The platinum certification for “Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design” (LEED) was issued for Building B, which opened in 2006. Building A, which opened in 2004, received gold-level certification. This marks the first time a building in Arizona has received the platinum award. ASU President Michael Crow has called for all new construction at the university to meet LEED standards.

Marco Janssen, associate director of the Center for the Study of Institutional Diversity, has received the Early CAREER Award from the National Science Foundation. The award is given to faculty members early in their careers in teaching and research.
