ASU announces launch of Herberger Institute

Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts crosses boundaries in name of innovation

How does digital culture impact and activate our world? How is wellness influenced by creative research and practice? How do art and design facilitate entrepreneurialism in the space where creativity and innovation intersect? Questions such as these belong to the core mission of the newly established Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts. Encompassing seven distinct disciplines and a diverse collection of research and outreach programs, the institute is positioned to allow for greater transdisciplinary interaction in its exploration of the creative process as a route to innovation and cultural and environmental adaptation – the staples of a 21st century. Gary Hill

Gary Hill, director of ensemble studies in the School of Music at the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts, discusses the possible connection between music and Oxytocin, a hormone scientists say is one of the key players in modulating social behaviors in the human brain.

p.a.v.e.

Linda Essig, director of the School of Theatre and Film at the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts, discusses the p.a.v.e. initiative. The program focuses on educating students and artists on arts entrepreneurship, and also invests in student innovation and creativity in the arts.
