ASU Football Season 2008

  • The year kicked off with ASU defeating the Northern Arizona University Lumberjacks 30-13.

  • The Bulldogs high flying offense was too much for the Sun Devils as Knowshon Moreno dives into the end zone. In the end, ASU came up short, 27-10.

  • Following losses on the road against USC and California, ASU returned home to Tempe. ASU’s Michael Jones scored one touchdown against a strong Oregon team, but the Ducks defeated the Devils.

  • An away game at Oregon State led to a close loss for the Sun Devils. The team finally broke through with a big win against the Huskies in Seattle, setting up a Homecoming showdown with Washington State. The Sun Devils put on a defensive show for 50th Anniversary Homecoming crowd shut out the Cougars 31-0. Defensive end Dexter Davis drops the Cougars’ quarterback Kevin Lopina for a loss.

  • A historic defensive performance led the Arizona State football team to a 34-9 victory over UCLA as the Sun Devil defense tied an NCAA record by scoring four touchdowns against the Bruins, returning three interceptions and one fumble. Devil defensive players Lawrence Guy (50), Luis Vasquez (49) and James Brooks (34) swarm UCLA's QB Kevin Craft.

  • Travis Goethel was one of three defensive players who returned interceptions for scores. "It's unbelievable," head coach Dennis Erickson said. "I've never seen anything like it in my many years of coaching. I've never seen four touchdowns scored on defense and such total control of the game."

  • A group of Sun Devil fans stood out in a sea of red clad Arizona fans as ASU visited their rivals in Tucson to play for the Territorial Cup, the oldest award given for a rivalry in college sports.

  • But like all true Sun Devil fans, Anthony Martinez of Chandler, and other students cheer on the Devils and look toward successes in the other ASU sports. The Sun Devils head into the off-season gearing up for a new run at the Rose Bowl in 2009.
