The plaza in front of the newly renovated Memorial Union once again became the crossroads of the Tempe campus as classes resume at ASU.

Where am I? Where do I go? Campus libraries staffed numerous information booths dispensing maps, directions, cold water and a friendly smile.

Like ducks in a row, bikes are lined up throughout the campus. With ASU’s wide, open spaces and never-ending sunshine, biking is a popular method of transportation on campus.

The new year and new facilities offers new challenges for ASU’s faculty and instructors as well. Instructor James Barnhard familiarizes himself with the computer system in one of the new classrooms in Santan Hall, as he prepares to teach English 101.

ASU’s Downtown Phoenix campus continues to grow as construction takes place on a new building for the university’s School of Nursing and Healthcare Innovation. The first tower of the new residence hall, Taylor place has opened for students while the second tower nears completion.

The Downtown Phoenix campus is now home for the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication. Journalism major Ryan Calhoun gets an early start on his assignment in the newsroom of the Cronkite News Service.

A little stretching out before class? Matt Pampel and several other education majors took advantage of the nice weather on Fletcher Lawn at ASU’s West campus with a quick game of frisbee.

For Britta Vatsaas, a secondary education major, reading outside of Fletcher Library on ASU’s West campus offers the perfect respite.

Once the work was done for the week, ASU students filed into Sun Devil Stadium to cheer on the football team for the first game of the year. As usual, the student section is full of enthusiasm.

What would a celebration be without fireworks lighting up the night sky. The Sun Devils went on to defeat the Lumberjacks of Northern Arizona University in a non-conference game. It was a great finish to an exciting first week of school at ASU, the first of many to come in the fall semester. Go Devils.
