A new tradition at Arizona State University’s West campus kicks off at 5:30 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 23, with the inaugural Sparky’s Twilight Dash. The public is invited to join ASU students, faculty and staff in either tackling the 5K run course on the West campus or following the shorter walk course.

Sparky’s Twilight Dash marks the start of Homecoming Week, with numerous events planned on all four ASU campuses.

“Because we pride ourselves on being one university in many places, it’s important to establish traditions on all ASU campuses,” said Zeke Reed, a political science major who participates in Undergraduate Student Government at the West campus.

“My hope is that Sparky’s Twilight Dash will become that tradition at West, promoting school spirit and raising Sun Devil pride among the student body,” Reed said. “It will build ties with members of the surrounding community as well, providing a positive healthy experience they can look forward to each year. It also might create a few new Sun Devil fans!”

After the race and walk, participants can enjoy a free concert on Fletcher Lawn in the center of campus. Refreshments and food will be available for purchase.

Proceeds from the family-friendly event benefit ASU student scholarships. Registration is $30 for those who register by Oct. 14; it increases to $45 from Oct. 15 through the deadline date of Oct. 20. (The fee is waived for ASU students, faculty and staff.)

ASU’s West campus is at 4701 W. Thunderbird Road in Phoenix. For more information and to register, visit http://homecoming.asu.edu/sparkysdash.
