Robles to accept Jimmy V Award at 2011 ESPY Awards

June 28, 2011

ASU wrestler and recent graduate Anthony Robles will accept the Jimmy V Award for Perseverance at the 2011 ESPY Awards, July 13, in Los Angeles.

The award is named for Jim Valvano, an American college basketball coach who died from cancer in 1993 and encouraged the world, in an infamous speech at the ESPYs, to never give up.

Born without a right leg, Robles' astonishing NCAA wrestling career is a reminder of Valvano's words. Robles won the NCAA title in his weight class and capped off a perfect 36-0 season before graduating in Spring 2011 with a bachelor's degree in business communications.

He plans to give a speech at the awards event, which will be televised.

Robles also is nominated for a 2011 ESPY Award in the category of Best Male Athlete with a Disability.
