New grad school rankings place ASU among best in US

Graduate programs at ASU rank among the best in the nation, according to the 2012 edition of “Best Graduate Schools,” published by U.S. News & World Report. Among the top tier ASU graduate programs rated this year are these:

• ASU’s nursing master’s program climbed to No. 21, up from No. 32 when the programs were last rated in 2007. The master’s in health care management also was ranked at No. 25.

• Business programs came in at No. 27, with the supply chain/logistics specialty ranked 6th in the nation and the part-time MBA program at No. 17.

• Education programs are ranked No. 35.

• Engineering programs are ranked at No. 44.

• Law came in at No. 40, placing 10th in the nation in legal writing.

All five of the new rankings put ASU’s graduate schools as the top-ranked schools in Arizona. Business, education, engineering and law rankings were compiled from detailed statistical information on more than 1,200 programs nationwide, while nursing programs were assessed by program directors and faculty.

“The rankings are a testament to the hard work of the ASU faculty, students and staff during these very challenging times,” said Elizabeth D. Capaldi, ASU executive vice president and provost. “We appreciate the well-deserved recognition.”

Other top-tier graduate programs at ASU, rated in 2008, 2010 and 2011, include:

• Public affairs is ranked No. 25.

• Fine arts is ranked No. 30.

• Earth sciences is ranked No. 17.

• Psychology is ranked No. 36.

• Speech-language pathology is ranked No. 18.

• Criminology is ranked No. 12.

• Biomedical/Bioengineering is No. 32.

• Environmental/Enviro Health Engineering is No. 23.

• Materials Engineering is No. 37.

• Biological Sciences is No. 56.

• Chemical Engineering is No. 48.

• Civil Engineering is No. 41.

• Electrical Engineering is No. 31.

• Industrial/Manufacturing Engineering is No. 17.

• Mechanical Engineering is No. 43.

• Analytical chemistry is No. 12.

• Ceramics is No. 17.

• Photography is No. 10.

• Printmaking is No. 7.

This is the fourth consecutive year that the W. P. Carey School has ranked in the top 30 for its full-time MBA program. The school is among the top five business schools in the western United States.

The Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College has been ranked among the nation’s best graduate programs in education for 12 consecutive years.
