Nursing and Health Innovation ranked in top 4 percent of graduate nursing programs

The ASU College of Nursing and Health Innovation has achieved the highest ranking in its history and is now ranked 21st out of 467 U.S. graduate nursing programs in the 2012 U.S. News & World Report College Rankings issued today. This ranking places the ASU college in the top 4 percent of graduate nursing programs. 

The ranking was determined by an assessment survey completed by peers in fall 2010. The college was ranked 32nd of 396 graduate nursing programs in the previous 2008 U.S. News & World Report College Rankings.

“We have had banner years with being the No. 1 NIH-funded college of nursing without a medical school and have been in the top 15 overall in NIH funding for the past two years in addition to launching several innovative academic, research and clinical practice programs,” former Dean Bernadette Melnyk, said. “It takes a great team to achieve these accomplishments, and we truly have one here. I appreciate the efforts of all current and previous faculty and staff, which made this ranking possible.”

During the four years covered by the survey, the college added a Doctor of Nursing Practice program, and transitioned its PhD program to one of two with an interdisciplinary format.

All U.S. News & World Report health rankings are based solely on the results of peer assessment surveys sent to deans, other administrators, and/or faculty at accredited degree programs or schools in each discipline. All schools surveyed in a discipline were sent the same number of surveys. Respondents rated the academic quality of programs on a 5-point scale with 5 being outstanding. They were instructed to select "don't know" if they did not have enough knowledge to rate a program. Only fully accredited programs in good standing during the survey period are ranked. Those schools with the highest average scores appear.
