My ASU expands function for staff, personal data

April 29, 2010

The functionality of My ASU has expanded tenfold since it was launched in 2008, offering a more dynamic environment for ASU students, faculty and staff. Today, My ASU is fast becoming a single portal or intranet site for ASU employees to conduct personal and university business.

Currently, students and faculty have been predominant users of My ASU for everything academic.

“During the last 30 days, more than 5.4 million hits to the site were recorded, with students and faculty making up the majority of those hits,” said Max Davis-Johnson, interim chief information officer in the University Technology Office. “As My ASU continues to evolve, it will become the place to go for staff to start their day.”

On April 27, a number of new features in My ASU were launched to provide expanded offerings to give faculty and staff quick access to their own personal compensation, travel and benefits data.

“Working with the University Technology Office, we are able to provide faculty and staff a way to access their personal data and business transactions with a few clicks. Everything you need to know about your leave time, your pay history and your benefits programs is now at your fingertips,” said Kevin Salcido, associate vice president/chief human resource officer.

Some of the newest enhancements include:

• Paycheck pop up allowing employees to select the recent pay period with one less click.

• Personalized benefits pop ups that include each employees benefit options.

• A new “To Do” section for reminders to complete a transaction such as filing tuition waivers, signing up for emergency text alerts or reminders to renew parking permit.

• More pertinent links with better organization across the My Employment (formerly My Compensation) Box.

• Important Blackboard Tips and Guidelines for faculty to see on their Classes box.

“The new to-do features will really help faculty and staff stay current with important transactions, like benefits enrollment,” Salcido said. “The development team, led by Leah Lommel in UTO, did a great job replicating the current student and faculty experience in My ASU.”

Over the last two years, My ASU has developed as a portal to quick links for applications like Google Docs, Outlook, Gmail as well as tools and resources for financial reports, transportation information and training opportunities. Students, faculty and staff also can find news, calendar of events and advertisement about what’s happening specific to ASU.

“In the future, the goal is to provide even more personalized transactions, greater  functionality for parking and financial services, and eventually university forms that will automatically populate with your information,” said Leah Lommel, senior director of development. “We hope to help make My ASU serve students, faculty and employees to make their experiences at ASU efficient and easy.”
