Senior Year Experience program partners with Boys & Girls Clubs

The ASU Alumni Association’s Senior Year Experience (SYE) program has partnered with the Valley of the Sun Boys & Girls Clubs for the 2009-10 academic year. A partnership between SYE and the Tempe Community Council, this program gives SYE participants on each of Arizona State University’s four campuses a chance to help a deserving community-based program while having fun volunteering together.

ASU graduating seniors can register to volunteer, either individually or in groups, at any Valley of the Sun Boys & Girls Clubs locations. The goal is to provide 2,000 hours of service by the end of the academic year.

This partnership adds a community service component to SYE, which was launched during the 2008-2009 academic year by the ASU Alumni Association. According to Alumni Association Executive Director of Operations Jenny Holsman, offering volunteer experiences to SYE participants is instrumental in reinforcing service as one key to a successful professional and personal life.

“At ASU, as the New American University, we have a demonstrated commitment to the communities in which we find ourselves embedded, and we want to introduce and re-enforce the importance of the lifelong commitment to improving our communities,” Holsman said. “This partnership with the Tempe Community Council and Valley of the Sun Boys & Girls Clubs helps encourage ASU graduating seniors to value community service and have a positive impact on their community.”
