Fiesta to celebrate Day of Dead
2 - 4 p.m.
The English Club @ ASU will sponsor an afternoon of poetry, feasting and film in celebration of the Day of the Dead from 2 to 4 p.m., Nov. 2, in the Memorial Union Alumni Lounge (room 202) on Arizona State University’s Tempe campus.
“La Fiesta en Conmemoración del Día de los Muertos” will feature poetry reading and storytelling by Regents’ Professor and acclaimed poet Alberto Ríos; a Día de los Muertos documentary screening; a celebratory feast in honor of the dead; and a tour of the altar display in the Museum of Anthropology’s “¡Que Vivan Los Muertos!” 10th Annual Día de los Muertos Festival Exhibit (through Jan. 8).
The Day of the Dead is an important spiritual celebration among Mexican and Mexican-American communities that merges ancient Aztec and Roman Catholic rituals and beliefs.
