Deputy Vice President for Research named to prestigious academy

Sethuraman "Panch" Panchanathan, deputy vice president for Research in ASU's Office of the Vice President for Research and Economic Affairs, was recently inducted into the prestigious Canadian Academy of Engineering. The Academy was established in 1987, and is an active member of the international Council of Academies of Engineering and Technological Sciences (CAETS), which involves 25 other leading countries compromised of a small number of distinguished engineers

The members of the Academy are nominated and elected by their peers after a review of their distinguished achievements and career-long service to the engineering profession. There are presently 295 members in the Academy.

Dr. Panchanathan will accept his fellowship at the Academy's 2009 Annual General Meeting on Monday, July 13, 2009, in Alberta, Canada.

As deputy vice president for Research at ASU, Dr. Panchanathan is responsible for conceptualizing, promoting and implementing strategic research initiatives. He is also a foundation chair in Computing and Informatics in the School of Computing Informatics and Decision Systems Engineering and the director of the Research Center for Cognitive Ubiquitous Computing (CUbiC) at ASU. He is also an associate professor in the Department of Basic Medical Sciences at the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix in partnership with ASU, and an affiliate professor in the School of Electrical, Computer and Energy Engineering.
