Trulson earns Academic All-District VIII Accolades

Jason Trulson, a recent senior on the Arizona State University wrestling team, has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VIII Second Team, the College Sports Information Directors (CoSIDA) announced last week. The native of Fountain Hills, Ariz., carried a 3.63 grade point average during his five years in Tempe while earning his degree in Biology. The honor from CoSIDA is the second national accolade Trulson earned this season after the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) announced him as a member of the NWCA Division I All-Academic Wrestling Team.

Trulson completed his senior season with a 26-8 record and was one victory shy of attaining his first All-America honor. Despite a knee injury that sidelined on January 27, Trulson competed with a torn ACL and placed second in the Pac-10 Championships one year after finishing third. Of his eight losses, only two came to foes not ranked in the Top 10 nationally. His selection to the NWCA Division I All-Academic Team is the second of his career while his CoSIDA honor is his first.

Prior to both academic honors, the Pac-10 Conference awarded Trulson a special honor as he was one of four Sun Devil senior student-athletes to earn the 2008 Pac-10 Post Graduate Scholarship. The Scholarship, which awards him $3,000 toward his post-graduate education, also makes him a candidate for the Oroweat "Healthy Minds" Scholarship, which is a $10,000 postgraduate scholarship provided to one male and one female student-athlete selected from the pool of 40 Pac-10 Post Graduate Scholarship winners.
