Food City and Cigna to sponsor ASU-Iowa wrestling dual Friday night

February 04, 2008

TEMPE, Ariz. - Thom Ortiz, head coach of the Arizona State University wrestling team, has announced a partnership with both Food City and Cigna, both of whom will sponsor the Sun Devils' dual with No. 1 Iowa at 7:30 p.m. Friday night at Copper Canyon High School in Glendale, Ariz. The sponsorship established by both companies will provide monetary donations to several charities in the Valley of the Sun on behalf of each company and ASU Wrestling.

"We want to thank Food City and Cigna for stepping up and sponsoring this dual meet," Ortiz said. "We also want to thank them for assisting ASU Wrestling in it's quest to better serve our community the best we can. Our leader, Lisa Love, has advocated that our sports team become more involved in our surrounding communities and this is just one way that we can help several charities in the Valley financially. In the future, as our team has already shown, we will continue to volunteer our services in the community. This is a great thing for these needy organizations and we are proud to join forces with Food City and Cigna to do our part to lend a hand."

While part of the donations from both Food City and Cigna will go to the Sun Angel Foundation, which assists ASU student-athletes with scholarships, the majority of the donations will benefit local organizations. Cigna and ASU Wrestling will make a contribution to the Hospice of the Valley while Food City and ASU Wrestling will donate to both the Eloise Diaz Foundation and the UMOM New Day Center. This will be the second time ASU Wrestling and the New Day Center have joined forces as earlier this season, several wrestlers visited the center and read to the children in attendance.

The dual will feature the top-ranked Hawkeyes, who come to the Valley with a 16-1 record, and the Sun Devils, who stand 9-5 this season. Fans are encouraged to arrive early for the dual as only 2,000 tickets will be available. Tickets will be $10 and are available at the high school on Friday.
