Exploring the New American University

ASU President Michael Crow presented the university’s planned evolution at the Scottsdale Center for Performing Arts Jan. 22. The discussion focused on ASU’s commitment to advancing higher education in Arizona in terms of access, excellence and impact.

Since taking office in 2002, Crow has led ASU on a 10-year, highly focused effort to create a new model for higher education – the New American University. Over the past five years, the establishment of the groundbreaking Biodesign Institute at ASU; the Global Institute of Sustainabilty, the world’s first school of sustainability; and the new medical school in Phoenix opened in partnership with the University of Arizona are all significant examples of ASU’s leading-edge trajectory.

“Universities will be a central feature of major cities of the future,” says Crow. “ASU is actively taking steps to be an integral part of Phoenix’s future and to play a large role in enhancing the lives of people in the Valley of the Sun and across Arizona.”
