Video series embodies spirit of ASU

Since 2002, ASU has been traveling the road toward becoming a New American University. Now, a new ASU Web site is highlighting how the concept is taking hold at ASU every day.

The mynew.asu.edu site, the university’s official site for the New American University, focuses on the individual stories of faculty, staff and students at ASU.

“The New American University concept has evolved over the last few years,” says Kimberly Loui, assistant vice president and executive director of university initiatives. “It is more than just a mission statement or a goal, the New American University has really taken root with ASU students, faculty and staff.”

The driving force behind the site is to represent the New American University in terms of the day-to-day impact of the people at the university. The centerpiece of the site is the “My New American University” video series at http://mynew.asu.edu/video-project. The videos show the interests, motivations and experiences of a wide range of people at ASU.

The short videos let the subjects explain their ASU experience in their own words.

“The story of ASU truly resides within the stories of the people who attend ASU, educate ASU students and support the mission of the university,” Loui says. “The videos feature ASU students, faculty and staff exploring what it means to be part of ASU right now. We hope these individual stories offer a real look at the motivations, passions, concerns and personalities of the people that make ASU a New American University.”

The site will continue to be updated, with new video content added regularly. The videos from the site will be available for download on ASU's iTunesU.

Along with the videos, the site provides news stories from across ASU that directly illustrate the New American University. A set of resources on the New American University is available online at http://mynew.asu.edu/resources.

These resources help to chart the progress of the New American University and provide a deeper background to the ideas behind the vision.
The site is a collaborative effort of University Initiatives, the Provost Communications Group, the Applied Learning Technologies Institute (Alt^I), and Marketing and Strategic Communication.

The site can be found at http://mynew.asu.edu.
