Manfredo recognized for excellence in the classroom

MESA, Ariz. — Mark Manfredo is one of 19 Arizona State University faculty members who were the first to be recognized by the university provost with a Faculty Achievement Award on April 24.

“The Faculty Achievement Awards recognize the many ways faculty contribute to academic excellence at ASU,” said Betty Capaldi, executive vice president and provost at ASU. “We are inspired by each of the faculty members honored."

The winners of the 2007 Faculty Achievement Awards were recognized in four general areas: Excellence in Scholarly and Creative Activities, Excellence in Teaching/Instruction, Excellence in Design Imperatives for the New American University, and Excellence in Service.

Manfredo, associate professor of finance in the Morrison School of Management and Agribusiness, was selected for his dedication to student success and was recognized for his Excellence in Teaching/Instruction. He has served as a professor to undergraduate and graduate students since 1999 and as the coach for each of ASU’s teams in the National Agri-Marketing Association’s student marketing competition. He teaches two courses each semester and one during the summer, in addition to serving as the faculty mentor to the NAMA marketing team. He also is involved in research on futures and options markets and the financial management of firms and incorporates it into his curriculum.

“Dr. Manfredo is committed to student learning and recognizes that it takes place in a variety of settings and venues,” said Paul Patterson, dean of the Morrison School. “His leadership on the NAMA marketing team is a good example of his commitment.”

In his letter of nomination, it states that “Dr. Manfredo epitomizes the ideal of the teacher-scholar in the university community.”

“Dr. Manfredo is one of our best teachers and truly cares about student success.  I am very pleased to see him recognized for this honor,” said Patterson.
